In-clinic and community veterinary care
In addition to rescuing snared and injured wildlife in the field and providing veterinary care to CSL’s working dogs, Dr Mwamba Sichande manages the only community veterinary clinic in Mambwe District. The small veterinary clinic in Mfuwe is equipped with the necessary tools to be able to conduct sterilisations, vaccinations, disease testing and other procedures. Dr Sichande also provides regular veterinary services to remote communities bordering the South Luangwa National Park that may not be able to travel to the clinic in Mfuwe. In 2025, over 1,600 domestic animals were treated free of charge by Dr Sichande and his team.
By increasing the number of sterilisations and rabies vaccinations in partnership with Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife, the Zambian Carnivore Programme, and Zambia’s Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, CSL aims to ensure a healthier domestic animal population which will also minimise the risk of disease transmission to South Luangwa’s wildlife.
